Keep recording and release identifiers consistent when transferring a catalogue.

Understand the identifiers

An ISRC identifies a sound recording, while a UPC identifies a release product such as a single or album. Neither identifier by itself proves ownership.

Use existing codes accurately

When transferring the same recording, keep its existing ISRC with matching metadata. Supply any existing UPC and explain whether the release package is unchanged.

Keep a catalogue record

Store codes alongside titles, artist names, versions and original release dates. Avoid guessing codes or reusing a recording identifier for unrelated audio.
